A detainee at the Leonora Police Station, West Coast Demerara, identified by police as Brian Knight of Fellowship Street, Den Amstel, West Coast Demerara, was found dead in his cell on Monday.
Commander for Regional Division #3, Senior Superintendent Mahendra Siwnarine confirmed the discovery, which is said to have occurred around 13:30hrs.
According to Police reports, a rank made a check at the lock-ups and saw the 46-year-old, who was held in cell number one, hanging motionless. It is suspected that Knight committed suicide.
Knight was in custody on an assault/domestic violence charge allegedly committed on a 42-year-old female.
He was due to attend court tomorrow.
