One person is reported to have died, while another is hospitalised with serious injuries following an accident on the No.63 Public Road, Corentyne, Berbice, on Sunday night.
Dead 26-year-old Kevin Alert of Eversham Village, Corentyne, Berbice; he was the driver of the car involved in the accident (PAC 1403).
The injured occupant has been identified as 21-year-old Nicklous Johnson of No.51 Village, Corentyne, Berbice.
The News Room was informed that the accident occurred at approximately 22:50hrs.
Alert was reportedly negotiating a turn when he lost control of the vehicle and ran off the road, colliding with a concrete culvert and then into an electrical pole.
The driver and the occupant were pulled from the wreckage in an unconscious state by residents who rushed from their homes to offer assistance.
They were immediately taken to the Skeldon Public Hospital where they were examined by the doctor on duty and transferred to the New Amsterdam Public Hospital.
Alert succumbed to his injuries, while Johnson was admitted in a semi-conscious state.
His condition is listed as serious, but stable. The body of Alert is at the mortuary awaiting an autopsy.
