10 months jail for man who beat Police Sergeant

Seon Prince admitted to assaulting the Police Sergeant

Seon Prince was on Wednesday sentenced to 10 months imprisonment for cuffing a Police Sergeant to his face during an arrest at Plaisance, East Coast Demerara.

Prince appeared at the Sparendaam Magistrates’ Court before Magistrate Rushelle Liverpool.

He admitted to assaulting Police Sergeant Maxwell, who was acting in the execution of his duties on Tuesday, May 31, 2022, at Plaisance.

According to reports, Prince is known to the police and Sergeant Maxwell.

On the day in question, Sergeant Maxwell, along with other officers were on mobile patrol when they received a call about an alleged damage to property.

Upon arrival at the location, Sergeant Maxwell confronted Prince and told him of the offence.

It is alleged that Prince became annoyed and cuffed the officer several times to his face causing him to receive injuries.  The video of the incident was widely circulated on social media.
