Baby girl among 3 COVID deaths; 206 new cases

A three-month-old baby girl from Region Four (Demerara-Mahaica) is among three new COVID-19 deaths, the Ministry of Health reported on Wednesday.

The baby girl, along with a 71-year-old woman from Region Six (East Berbice- Corentyne), both died on May 31; a 41-year-old man from Region Four died on May 30. The man and woman were unvaccinated.

These latest deaths mean that nine persons died in May and also take the country’s death toll to 1, 237.

Meanwhile, 206 new cases were recorded from 2, 718 tests, taking the overall number of confirmed cases since March 2020 to, 64, 969.

The new cases were recorded in the following regions; Region One (one case), Region Two (19 cases), Region Three (eight cases), Region Four (146 cases), Region Five (12 cases), Region Six (13 cases), Region Seven (six cases) and Region Ten (one case).

There are three patients in the COVID-19 Intensive Care Unit (ICU), 26 patients are in institutional isolation and 748 are in home isolation.

To date, 62, 955 people have recovered from the virus.
