A 30-year-old taxi driver of Golden Grove, East Bank Demerara was arrested after he reportedly told police that he was abducted and robbed of his motorcar (HD 2794) when, in fact, he used cocaine, fell asleep, and woke up to find his car and key missing.

Police Headquarters reported that the taxi driver, Keshan Bhola, is a habitual cocaine user.

On Friday at about 07:00hrs, he went to the Madewini Police Station and reported that he was abducted and robbed on Sunday last by two men and a woman.

“However, during an interview conducted by investigators, Bhola recanted his false report to the police,” the police said.

The man claimed that he went to a ‘gamble shop’ in “Grove with his car where he used cocaine, and drank beers, then fell asleep with the key on his pants waist,” the police report stated.

After he woke up and discovered his car and key missing, he reportedly learned that the shop owner and another man removed the car.

Further investigations revealed that on Sunday, Bhola went to the gambling shop, used cocaine, and conspired with a 45-year-old vendor of Grove to fake the abduction and robbery.

Police said the vendor was arrested and reportedly told investigators that he [the vendor] sold the car to an individual who is currently being pursued by police.

Investigations are ongoing.
