Over $5M worth of stolen ‘braids and weave’ recovered by cops

Police have arrested two persons in connection with the theft of $5.4 million in braids and weaves which were stolen from the bond of businessman, 38-year-old Junior Hope of Non Pareil, East Coast Demerara.

Police Headquarters reported that the break and enter occurred between Friday night and Saturday morning. The businessman told the cops the bond was secured on Friday evening at around 17:30hrs, however, at around 11:00hrs Saturday, he discovered the front door open, the bond ransacked and the items missing.

Acting on information received, police, with the use of a search warrant, conducted a search at Fourth Street, Annandale, where a quantity of the suspected stolen items were recovered.

Another search was then conducted at Strathspey Squatting Area at the home of a businesswoman where a quantity of the said items were recovered in a building at the back of her yard.

The police raid was conducted between 13:50 hrs to 16: 30hrs today. A total $4,840,000 worth of items were recovered.

Two persons were arrested and are presently in custody – one for break and enter and larceny, and the other one for receiving stolen articles.

Investigations are ongoing.
