A 76-year-old pensioner was discovered dead between two tombs at the Logwood Enmore Cemetery on the East Coast of Demerara.
He has been identified as Compton Lawrence of Logwood Enmore.
Police Headquarters reported that Lawrence was last seen alive drinking alcohol in the cemetery at about 13:00hrs on Friday.
On Saturday, at about 07:30hrs, he was found lying face down by a resident.
“The body was examined and what appears to be bruises were seen about his face,” the police reported.
Lawrence was taken to the CC Nicholson Hospital where he was officially pronounced dead.
The body was then escorted to Jerrick’s Funeral Home where a post-mortem will be conducted.
Police said several persons were questioned in the area but no additional information was received.
