Police recover high-powered weapons in Reg. 7 backdam

Police in Region Seven recovered several high-powered weapons on Saturday at Blackwater Backdam.

According to a police report, the owner of the weapons is being sought.

Based on information received, police ranks went to a mining camp at about 15:00hrs and discovered the weapons – a Rickover 5.56 MM Rifle, a Benelli ARMI Rifle, a three gauge Magnum Shotgun, an FN Rifle and 37 .223 rounds of ammunition.

Police said upon their arrival at the camp, the suspect managed to escape.

The police reported that the owner of the camp said the suspect is known to him and on Friday night, the suspect visited the camp with the firearms and told the owner he needed money.

“The camp owner said the suspect buried the firearms at three different locations on the campground and then slept the night,” police reported.

The camp owner then directed the ranks to where the firearms were buried.

The firearms and ammunition were taken to the Bartica Police Station and lodged.
