Ranks of the Major Crimes Unit retrieved a decomposed body suspected to be that of Reonol Williams in a trench on the East Coast of Demerara on Tuesday.

Crime Chief Wendell Blanhum confirmed that a body was found at Coldingen.

Williams, 50, of Enmore, East Coast Demerara has been missing since May 23 after he was involved in an accident.

Earlier on Tuesday, investigators rearrested the owner of the car. Shortly after he was rearrested, the owner of the car took investigators to the location where the body was found.

“We have in custody the owner for the motor vehicle, he is presently assisting the police with investigations,” the Crime Chief said.

He related that investigators are yet to confirm if he was the driver at the time of the accident.

Relatives had told the News Room that the police reportedly told them that the owner was not driving and that someone had used his car without his permission.

The owner was arrested last week and was subsequently released on station bail.

Williams was struck down by a red Toyota Fielder wagon on the Enmore Public Road just after midnight on May 23; he was picked up by the driver of the car that hit him down and the driver reportedly told eyewitnesses that he was taking the injured man to the hospital.

Williams was never taken to any hospital and his family has been unable to locate him since.
