Robbery suspects open fire on cops, one arrested
Police ranks in Regional Division Three came under fire by three robbery suspects who were in a grey Toyota Fielder Wagon at about 23:30hrs on Tuesday at La Grange Public Road, West Bank Demerara.
The ranks managed to arrest one of the suspects, Police Headquarters noted in a statement.
According to the report, the police ranks “were forced to return fire after they were shot at by the occupants of the vehicle.”
The ranks were on patrol when they received reports of a robbery committed on a 41-year-old man of Campbellville, Georgetown.
The ranks went to the scene and observed the suspects in the vehicle. The police report stated that when the ranks approached the suspects, they opened fire on the police.
After the police returned fire, two of the suspects escaped on foot, leaving the car behind.
The suspect of La Parfaite Harmonie was arrested and taken into custody, along with the vehicle.
Investigations are ongoing.
