Ranks of the Customs Anti-Narcotic Unit (CANU) have arrested a 23-year-old woman in connection with the discovery of cocaine inside a religious item.

A press release from CANU noted that Lisa Ramnarine of Hague, West Coast Demerara, was taken into custody on Tuesday after the cocaine was intercepted at DHL’s 50 E Fifth Street, Alberttown, Georgetown Headquarters.

According to CANU, its ranks acted on information received about the parcel at DHL which contained a Hindu Havan Kund and other religious items.

Officers examined the items and discovered a hidden compartment within the Kund, which was suspected to contain cocaine.

The sender’s information retrieved from the package led to the arrest of Ramnarine.

CANU said it dismantled the item in her Ramnarine’s presence and found 540 grams (about one pound) of the substance which later tested positive for cocaine.
