Women’s T20 Blaze: Guyana look to rebound against Trinidad

Guyana will look to bounce back from the painful defeat to Barbados on Tuesday when they face Trinidad and Tobago on Thursday in the second round of the Regional Women’s T20 Blaze at the National Stadium, Providence.

Guyana and their rivals from the twin-island republic battle from 10:00h while the Leeward Islands face Barbados from 14:30h followed by Jamaica and Windward from 19:00h.

In their first match,  Guyana had to a small target of 87 and seemed on course for victory at 54-1 halfway through the 15th over, but panic stepped in and they were held to 79-9 to lose by seven runs.

Aaliyah Alleyne and Shakera Selman picked up three wickets each, as only Shemaine Campbelle with 33, Shabika Gajnabi 14 and Tremayne Smartt with 13 got into double figures for Guyana.

Barbados struggled as well after they opted to bat first, losing wickets at regular intervals. Cherry-Ann Fraser was impressive with 3-11, including a brilliant return catch, while Mandy Mangru picked up 2-13 and debutant Ashmini Munisar bowled well, taking 2-17.

West Indies player Hayley Matthews made a match-high 35, while Kyshona Knight scored 17.

On Tuesday evening Chinelle Henry turned in an excellent all-around performance and Neisha-Ann Waisome was outstanding with the ball as Jamaica trounced Trinidad and Tobago by 79 runs.

Waisome, a veteran right-handed medium-pacer, bulldozed the Trinidad and Tobago batting line-up. Waisome tore through the middle-order to finish with career-best figures of 5 for 8 from four overs.

The tall Henry smashed the first half-century of the tournament – 52 off 38 balls with seven boundaries- as Jamaica made the day’s highest score of 133 for 6 off 20 overs.
