Investigators are on their way to Puruni Landing in Region Seven (Cuyuni-Mazaruni) after residents apprehended a man who reportedly admitted to killing a female cook and dumping her body overboard.

The woman’s body has not been recovered and she had been identified as Miriam Edwards.

Crime Chief Wendell Blanhum told the News Room that the suspect allegedly told residents he murdered the woman after he robbed of her some gold.

Blanhum related that the man was detained by residents after they discovered that the cook’s camp was ransacked.

“Ranks are presently en-route to the location. The body has not yet been found,” Blanhum said.

In videos seen by the News Room, the suspect is observed tied up and appeared to have been beaten.

The woman’s sister posted on her Facebook page, “I can’t believe you gone and left us, my loving, caring sister.”

The sister also posted that she spoke with Edwards via video chat two days ago.
