Marijuana found inside abandoned supermarket at Bagotsville, one arrested

Police on Saturday conducted an intelligence-led operation at an abandoned Chinese supermarket located at Bagotville junction, West Bank Demerara where a quantity of marijuana was found.

In a statement on Sunday, the police detailed that at about15:00 hrs a search was conducted on a 36-year-old gold miner and he was found with three transparent zip loc bags in his left-side pocket, which contained a quantity of leaves, seeds and stems suspected to be cannabis.

He was cautioned, arrested and escorted to the La Grange Police Station along with the said narcotics which, when weighed, amounted to 10.7 grams.

The gold miner was placed in custody pending investigation.

Further, the ranks conducted a search inside the abandoned supermarket where a bulky black transparent plastic bag, which contained 28 zip loc plastic bags of leaves, seeds and stems suspected to be cannabis, was found hanging on a wood.

The ranks carried out a further search at the back of the building and found a bulky green transparent plastic bag hanging on a nail with more leaves, seeds and stems, suspected to be cannabis.

The suspected cannabis was then taken to the La Grange Police Station where it was was weighed and amounted to 282 grams.
