T20 Blaze: T&T snatch thrilling one-run win over Windward Islands
Trinidad and Tobago won by the slimmest of margins, edging the Windward Islands by one run in fourth-round action of the Cricket West Indies CG United Women’s T20 Blaze on Monday afternoon at the National Stadium, Providence.
Batting first, Trinidad and Tobago managed 88-8, to which the Windward Islands responded with 87-7.
The game seemed destined for a Super Over when Zaida James and Jannillea Glasgow completed a double with two required off the last delivery, but umpire Nigel Duguid ruled James grounded her bat short at the non-striker’s end.
Left-hander James ended on 28 not out off 35 balls (3x4s), while Afy Fletcher made 16 and Qiana Joseph 13. Anisa Mohammed took 2-16.
Earlier, Britney Cooper made an unbeaten 47 off 41 balls (5x4s) and Mohammed scored 19 off 24 (3x4s).
Joseph was impressive with the ball, claiming excellent figures of 4-1-10-3, while Pearl Etienne had 4-1-17-2.
In the earlier Round Four match, defending champions Barbados defeated Jamaica by 25 runs to move one step closer to a successful title defence.
The final Round Four game will feature Guyana against the Leeward Islands from 19:00h on Monday.
All matches are being played at the National Stadium, Providence.
