Two elderly persons die from COVID; 83 cases recorded

An 88-year-old unvaccinated woman from Region Four (Demerara- Mahaica) and a 94-year-old man from Region Three (Essequibo Islands-West Demerara) are Guyana’s latest COVID-19 deaths.

The man’s vaccination status is unknown and he died on June 13; the woman died on June 11. This means that the total number of deaths recorded since March 2020 has increased to 1,242.

Meanwhile, another 83 people were infected with the novel coronavirus after 1,477 tests were done, based on information from the Ministry of Health’s daily COVID-19 dashboard.

With these new infections, the total number of cases recorded since March 2020 has increased to 66,009.

The new cases were recorded in the following regions: Region One (one case), Region Two (12 cases), Region Three (15 cases), Region Four (40 cases), Region Six (10 cases), Region Seven (two cases), Region Nine (two cases) and Region 10 (one case).

Meanwhile, there are two patients in the COVID-19 Intensive Care Unit (ICU), 17 patients in institutional isolation and 789 patients are in home isolation.

To date, 63,959 people have recovered.
