Two passengers arrested after 17lbs of ganja found in minibus
A 28-year-old taxi driver of Charlotte Street, Georgetown and a 36-year-old labourer of Zeelugt, East Bank Essequibo (EBE), who were passengers in a route 31 minibus, were arrested after 7,752.8 grams (17 pounds) of marijuana were discovered inside the vehicle.
The bus was intercepted by police ranks at Orangestein, EBE on Tuesday at about 17:20hrs, Police Headquarters reported.
Police said the marijuana was wrapped in 10 transparent bulky plastic in a haversack after the passengers and the vehicle was searched.
The marijuana was found at the bottom of the back seat of the bus.
The passengers were all escorted to Parika Police Station and questioned.
“At Parika Police Station, further investigations were carried out which led to the arrest of two of the passengers,” the police said.
The two suspects both denied the allegation and were placed in custody, pending charges.
