Man, 79, dies from COVID, 85 new cases recorded

The Ministry of Health on Friday reported that as of Thursday, June 16, 2022, one more person who tested for the COVID-19 virus has died and 85 new infections have been recorded.

The latest victim is a 79-year-old male from Region Six (East Berbice – Corentyne) who was partially vaccinated and died on June 15, 2022, taking the overall deaths since March 2020 to 1,245.

The 85 new infections were recorded from 1,126 tests conducted within a 24-hour period and takes the number of confirmed cases in Guyana to 66,385 from 650,719 tests to date.

The new cases were recorded in the following regions: Region One (two cases), Region Two (12 cases), Region Three (ten cases), Region Four (41 cases), Region Six (16 cases) and Region Seven (four cases).

There are two patients in the COVID-19 Intensive Care Unit, 20 patients are in institutional isolation and 942 are in home isolation.

To date, 64,176 persons have recovered from the virus.
