No bail for alleged knife-wielding thief

Thirty-two-year-old Kevin King, a porter of Bare Root, East Coast Demerara, was on Friday denied bail after being charged with using a knife to rob a man of his phone and $5,000 in cash.

The police on Friday said that King appeared at the Sparendaam Magistrate’s Court before Magistrate Alisha George.

He pleaded not guilty and was remanded to prison; the matter was adjourned to July 20, 2022.

The police reported that Sunny Mohan, a 68-year-old gardener of First Street Montrose, ECD, was allegedly robbed at around 06:30 hrs at First Street Montrose on June 16, 2022.

Mohan was on his to his work when King allegedly rode up to him on a bicycle, held him at knifepoint and demanded money.

A fearful Mohan handed over his Samsung A10 cell phone valued at $45,000 and the cash.

King then attempted to flee the scene but public-spirited citizens gave chase behind him. He was captured and handed over to the police.
