Security guard shoots co-worker during argument over parking

Police have arrested a 27-year-old security guard who reportedly shot his co-worker, 30-year-old Junior Mohan on Thursday at about 15:50hrs.

Police Headquarters reported that both men are employed with a security company located at Sheriff Street, Georgetown and were stationed at the Ramada Princess Hotel at Providence, East Bank Demerara.

According to the police report, the men were on duty standing to the north of the main entrance of the hotel when they had a disagreement over the cars parked in the driveway.

“The suspect got annoyed and pulled out his firearm, a Glock 19 Pistol which had 10 live matching 9mm rounds of ammunition, and discharged a round hitting the victim (his co-worker) on his leg just over the knee,” the police stated.

A Police Corporal, who was performing duties at the hotel at the time, arrested the suspect and took possession of the firearm.

Police said a 9mm spent shell was recovered from the scene while the entire incident was captured on CCTV.

Mohan was taken to a city hospital where he underwent surgery.

The firearm and ammunition were marked and lodged with the station sergeant at Providence Police station.

Further investigations are ongoing.
