Trinidad and Tobago followed in the footsteps of Barbados by notching opening round victories as action continued in the Cricket West Indies Women’s Super50 at the National Stadium, Providence, on Friday.

Trinidad had a comprehensive eight-wicket win over the Leeward Islands as they aced the chase of 133 with 15 overs in the bank.

Shenelle Lord made a patient and unbeaten 30 (5x4s) from 57 balls and shared an unbroken 57-run partnership with captain Anisa Mohammed, who made 20 (2x4s) from 54 balls, which guided the Trinidadians home.

The chase was initially set up by a superb opening stand of 71 in 16.1 overs by Reniece Boyce (35) and  Djenaba Joseph (15).

The Leeward Islands did not help their cause as they leaked 34 runs in extras.

Just like the T20 Blaze, where batters failed to get significant scores, only three Leeward batters got into double figures.

Shawanisha Hector top-scored with 46 which was the bulk of the 52-run stand for the fifth wicket with Arsheena Freeman (3).

Amanda Edwards (29) and Rozel Liburd (31*) were the other two, as they shared 45-run for the eight-wicket.

Pacer Kirbyina Alexander with 3-20 from ten overs was the pick of the bowlers for Trinidad.

On Saturday, Barbados and Jamaica battle from 09:30h at Providence.
