City Magistrate Leron Daly on Friday released a 39-year-old supervisor on $250,000 bail for allegedly stealing $7.1 million in cash from his employer, Lenders Jewellery & Pawn Shop.

Claude Stewart of Castello Housing Scheme, La Penitence, Georgetown, pleaded not guilty to the charge which alleged that between November 20, 2020, and May 27, 2022, while being employed at the Pawn Shop, he stole $7.1M, the property of Collin Barker.

Stewart’s attorney Shercola Exeter made an application for bail citing that her client is the father of two minor children and does not pose a flight risk.

Police Prosecutor Christopher Morris did not object to bail but asked that conditions are attached.

Magistrate Daly released Stewart on $250,000 bail with the condition that he report to the Criminal Investigation Headquarters every Monday until the case is completed.

The matter was adjourned until July 22.
