Speeding truck driver, 27, dies in Brickery accident

A 27-year-old truck driver died hours after he was involved in an accident along the Brickery, East Bank Demerara (EBD) Public Road in the wee hours of Saturday.

Dead is Ezekiel Edmond of Plantation Hope, West Coast Berbice.

The accident occurred at about 03:10hrs and involved two trucks, (GAB 4276) driven by Edmond and (GAC 1059).

Forty-one-year-old Tyron Boyer of Zeelught, West Coast Demerara is the driver of the second truck which was parked on the side of the road at the time of the accident.

According to a police report, Edmond was proceeding south along the road when he lost control and collided with Boyer’s truck.

Edmond was reportedly speeding at the time.

He received injuries to his head and legs; he was then taken out of the vehicle by Boyer, placed into a passing minibus and taken to the Diamond Diagnostic Centre.

Edmond was later transferred to the Georgetown Public Hospital and underwent emergency surgery.

Police said no trace of alcohol was found after Boyer did a breathalyzer test. He was arrested and later placed on bail.

At about 15:00hrs on Saturday, Edmond succumbed to his injuries.

The body was taken to the Georgetown Hospital mortuary awaiting a post-mortem examination.
