Barbados crush T&T to storm into Women’s Super50 final
Defending champions Barbados are in the final of the Cricket West Indies CG United Women’s Super50 Cup following a nine-wicket thumping of Trinidad and Tobago in semi-final one on Wednesday.
In a rain-affected contest reduced to 33 overs per side at the National Stadium, Providence, Trinidad and Tobago made 133 all out with Lee-Ann Kirby making 41.
Extras topscored with 53, as Aaliyah Alleyne took 4-31 and Hayley Matthews 3-20.
Matthews and the Knight twins then made the game a one-side affair, as Barbados ruled the run-chase, losing just one wicket and winning with 16 balls remaining.
The in-form Matthews ended on an unbeaten 50 off 86 balls (2x4s), and featured in a 79-run unbroken second wicket partnership with Kyshona Knight, who was not out on a free-flowing 49 off 45 (7x4s, 1×6).
Kycia Knight, who made 32 off 50 (3x4s), and Matthews had earlier laid the foundation for victory with an opening stand of 61 that effectively put the match beyond Trinidad.
Barbados will now await the winner of the second semi-final between Guyana and Jamaica on Thursday from 09:30h at the same venue to know who they will face in Saturday’s final.
