A man identified as Radesh Bickharie, 52, was arrested on Friday last by officers of the Customs Anti Narcotic Unit (CANU).
The CANU ranks were at the time conducting an operation at a residence in Palmyra East, Canje, Berbice.
A subsequent search of the premises led to the discovery of one loaded improvised shotgun and one live cartridge.
Bickharie was arrested and escorted to the Central Police Station, New Amsterdam along with the firearm and two live cartridges, which were handed over to the police.
