Emanuel Archibald and Keliza Smith took the 100m titles when Athletics Guyana staged the Senior Championship at the weekend at the National Track and Field Facility, Leonora.
Archibald won the 100m title in a time of 10.38 seconds ahead of Noelex Holder (10.41s) and Akeem Stewart (10.46s), while Smith won in 11.53s, followed by Juvonna Cornette (11.63s) and Tonya Rawlins (12.00s).
The female 200m was a repeat of the 100m with the same order of finish on the podiums for the athletes.
Loneil Marks (21.34s), Holder (21.37s) and Revon Williams (21.57s) took the podium for the 200m.
Michael James of the Guyana Defence Force won the 400m in 48.01s, while Narissa McPherson (56.38s) took the female crown.
Joanna Archer (800m), Aaliyah Moore (1500m) and Aaliyah Headley (5000m) took the distance events in the Women’s category.
Devaun Barrington took the Men’s 800m title in a close race with Nicholas Daw, while Matthew Gordon and Marlon Nicholson won the 1500m and 5000m events.
In the field, Archibald also won his Long Jump event with a best leap of 7.90m, while Natrena Hooper 6.10m won the female category ahead of Chantoba Bright (6.0m).
Julio Sinclair threw a best of 13.64m to win the Shot Put, while Joshua Jones 42.76 won the Discus.
Leslain Baird and Anisha Gibbons took home the Javelin titles.
Though no one qualified from the event for the World Championships next month, Athletics Guyana President Aubrey Hutson said he was impressed with the performances.
