Gopaul Tiwari, who is known by several names including ‘Omkar/Big Mike/Chris Persaud and Mike Persaud’, of Dora, Demerara River, was arrested Monday at a Guest House in Eccles, East Bank Demerara for allegedly obtaining money by false pretence.
Police issued a wanted bulletin for 54-year-old Tiwari in December 2021. A statement from Police Headquarters on Tuesday related that a team of police ranks, acting on information received, went to the Guest House and found Tiwari.
“Gopaul Tiwari was wanted for several counts of obtaining [money] by false pretence,” the statement noted.
Tiwari was told of the offence, cautioned and taken to the Providence Police Station, and subsequently transferred to the La Parfaite Harmonie Police Station where he is presently in custody.
In May 2016, Tiwari was jailed for 54 months on charges of fraudulent conversion and conspiracy to commit a felony.
