The Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sport (MCY&S) and the National Sports Commission (NSC) are once again teaming up with the Guyana Amateur Swimming Association to stage the nationwide ‘Teach Them Young’ Swim programme, set to commence in Georgetown, Linden and Berbice in mid-July.

The programme caters for youngsters ages six to 18 years old, and this year the MCY&S, the NSC and the Swimming Association are aiming to attract between 800 to 1,000 participants overall at the three camps, which will be run simultaneously.

There will be a total of 10 sessions in Linden, from July 19 to August 10, while nine sessions will be held in Berbice from July 19 to August 5.

In Georgetown, there will be 11 sessions from July 18 to August 12 with the venues being the National Aquatic Centre at Liliendaal and the Colgrain Pool on Camp Street.

Registration will commence on July 9 and can be done by calling the National Aquatic Centre (222-1503), Colgrain Pool (226-0387) or coach Paul Mahaica (615-5714).

Mahaica said the camp is geared to “teach swimming as a life skill.” He is urging parents and guardians to grab the opportunity, noting that the sessions are free.

This is the second swim camp for the year by the MCY&S and the NSC. At the Easter camp, which lasted two weeks in April, close to 400 young boys and girls participated.
