A number of representatives of businesses in Bartica were the beneficiaries of a sensitisation outreach, which was organised and conducted by the Ministry of Labour, in collaboration with the Bartica Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

Martin Murray, the local officer attached to the Ministry of Labour, disclosed that the forum was aimed at heightening awareness of the rights and responsibilities of both employees and employers in the work environment, according to the laws of Guyana.

Among the topics covered were: hours of work, overtime pay and national minimum wage; Termination of Contract and Severance Pay Act; Unfair Dismissal; Leave with Pay Act; Inspection of Business and Record Keeping; Occupational Health and Safety Requirements; and Apprenticeship.

Chief Labour Officer, Dineshwar Deonarine, was among the officials who were part of the visit.

Head of the Bartica Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Anthony Murray, said that the organisation will continue to engage and collaborate with the Government of Guyana on similar programmes, which are aimed at educating persons in the field of business and enhancing their productivity.
