A 23-year-old labourer identified as Gregory Isaacs was arrested on Saturday after police discovered 52, 617 grams (116 pounds) of marijuana during an intelligence-led operation in the Abary River in Region Five.

Police Headquarters in a statement said ranks made the major drug bust at about 12:00hrs at a house located along the Abary River, about 40 miles from the West Coast Berbice Public Road.

“On arrival at the area, the ranks saw a two-storey wooden and concrete house on a plot of land. The ranks also met a 23-year-old labourer from Tempie Village, West Coast Berbice,” the police report stated.

After the house was searched the marijuana was found in four salt bags in a room on the lower flat.

The labourer was told of the offence and reportedly told the ranks that “the place belongs to ‘Jah Jah’ and that he is just the caretaker.”
Police are now searching for the owner of the house as investigations continue.
