As the authorities look to root out narcotics trafficking in the Berbice area, a speedboat loaded with bundles of ganja was on Sunday hauled in by the Customs Anti-Narcotics Unit (CANU).

Officers of CANU discovered the boat with the ganja stuffed in “several bulky garbage bags docked at the pump station that drains the number 66 village Canal.”

CANU stated that a subsequent search of the boat revealed several parcels containing a quantity of suspected Cannabis. Three (3) individuals were apprehended in the vicinity of the boat.

The individuals, along with the suspected narcotics and speed boat, were taken to CANU headquarters where a test was conducted and it was confirmed that the items in the bags were indeed cannabis. The drugs weighed a total of 41.8kg with an estimated street value of $11 million.
