A fisherman, identified as 22-year-old Ajay Ali of Unity, Mahaica, East Coast Demerara, died on Monday night in an accident along the Success Public Road, East Coast Demerara.
Police in Regional Division 4’C’ are investigating the fatal accident, which occurred at about 23:20hrs and involved motorcar (HB 5349), which was driven by 46-year-old Kumar Persaud of Cane Grove, East Coast Demerara.
According to Persaud, he was proceeding west along the Success Public Road when Ali ran into the vehicle’s path, causing a collision.
As a result, the now-deceased man received several injuries.
Police ranks were informed and immediately visited the scene of the accident where Ali was seen motionless on the road.
The man was pronounced dead at the scene by medical personnel from the Georgetown Public Hospital.
The body was subsequently taken to the Memorial Gardens Funeral Home.
A breathalyzer test conducted on the driver found no trace of alcohol.
He remains in custody assisting with the investigation.
