    Nine-wicket win for Guyana in Regional Women’s U-19

    Guyana commenced the Cricket West Indies (CWI) Women’s Under-19s Rising Stars T20 Championship on Tuesday with a commanding nine-wicket win over Barbados at the Diego Martin Sporting Complex in Trinidad.

    Also recording wins in Round One were USA and Trinidad and Tobago.

    In a match reduced to 15 overs per side, Guyana kept the Bajans to 62-3 and then knocked off the target in 10.4 overs with just one wicket down.

    Opener Zaliya Campbell topscored for Barbados with 17 off 27 balls (3x4s), while extras were 16. Bowling for Guyana, Niveena Ramnauth was impressive with figures of 2-3 off three overs, while Realeanna Grimmond took 1-13 off three overs.

    Grimmond was then dismissed for one with the score on 19, but that was the only wicket to fall for Guyana as Naomi Barkoye and skipper Ashmini Munisar secured victory with an unbroken partnership of 44.

    Opener Barkoye made an unbeaten 25 off 36 balls (4x4s), while Munisar was not out on 14 off 24 (2x4s) as Guyana won with 26 balls remaining.

    USA defeated Jamaica by seven wickets at the Brian Lara Cricket Academy. Jamaica 49-5 from 20 overs (Gabrielle Bryan 12*; Geetika Kodali 1-3, Snigdha Paul 1-4, Isani Vaghela 1-11, Jivana Aras 1-15) vs USA 53-3 from 11.2 overs (Extrs 20, Anika Kolan 11*; Brianna Plummer 1-6, Kade Wilmott 1-7, Kate Wilmott 1-11)

    Trinidad and Tobago defeated Leeward Islands by 137 runs at the Brian Lara Cricket Academy. Trinidad and Tobago 164-2 from 20 overs (Shalini Samaroo 61, Shunelle Shaw 53*, Djenaba Joseph 21) vs Leeward Islands 27 all out from 12.1 overs (Shalini Samaroo 4-0)

    Windward Islands vs USA at Diego Martin Sporting Complex – 09:30h

    Leeward Islands vs Guyana at Brian Lara Cricket Academy – 10:00h

    Trinidad and Tobago vs Barbados at Brian Lara Cricket Academy – 14:30h
