Bush Lot farmer stabbed to death by neighbour
The quiet community of Bush Lot, Corentyne, Berbice was rattled Friday afternoon by the news that a resident was stabbed to death by his neighbour.
Dead is Rameshwar Sydney, 47, a cash crop farmer of Lot 232 Bush Lot Village. Regional Commander Boodnarine Persaud confirmed that the suspect is in police custody.
News Room was informed that the incident took place at just around 13:00 hrs on July 8, 2022.
Asha Tomby, sister-in-law of the dead man, disclosed that Sydney had returned from the farm and was having lunch at his home when the neighbour, identified as “Joey”, from three houses away, showed up.
She stated that “Joey” asked Sydney to “go over by him to gaff” and so he did.
In a matter of minutes, she said Syndey ran out in the direction of his house with a knife stuck in his neck. A security guard from the Bushlot Secondary School was passing at the time and saw Sydney collapsed to the ground with blood pouring out from the wound. The security, she said, alerted the neighbour and that neighbour called on the victim’s wife who ran to his assistance.
Tomby said when the wife arrived, Sydney was still breathing. He was rushed to the Port Mourant Hospital where he was pronounced dead shortly after.
Sydney was a father of five children.
