Female soldier stabbed multiple times; boyfriend on the run from police

Twenty-Four-year-old Zenida April, a soldier, and her mother, Nevorne April, 48, were on Tuesday night, attacked by her boyfriend, James Rodwell Cadogon, known as “Roddie”, who is a former soldier.

Nevorne spoke with the News Room via a telephone call on Friday. She said Zenida, her daughter was stabbed eight times by her boyfriend on Tuesday night.

She said a disagreement between the couple caused her daughter to leave the home on Monday. According to Nevorne, the former soldier started threatening Zenida which caused her to leave their Paradise, East Coast Demerara, home.

It was while Zenida and Cadogan were at Nevorne’s home that the incident began.

“We were in the bedroom, he (Cadogon) locked the door, locked my son and my nephew outside and there is where he rush into the bedroom and he started to stab my daughter,” Nevorne explained.

She said as he stabbed Zenida, he told her that he was not joking when he threatened her the day prior.

She said that she couldn’t recall everything that happened but at one point, she thought her daughter died. She said that she heard a window break and assumed that her son was trying to get into the house. During the said time, Cadogon ran out of the house and made good his escape after the stabbing.

The worried mother said she rushed her daughter to the hospital immediately after. Nevorne received a stab which needed stitches.

“I get a stab on my shoulder,” she said. Her daughter received injuries to her hand, upper parts of her back, by the shoulder, between her breasts, her mouth and face.

“Right now my daughter is traumatized…she can’t sleep she can’t eat. She received eight stab wounds. All are not that serious but, trust me, if she didn’t wearing her uniform, I don’t know what would’ve happened,” Noverne said.

Nevorne said that her daughter’s work uniform saved her because it prevented her being deeply wounded. She also said that they made a report to the police but the man has been evading the authorities. She said that Zenida received several threats via text message from Cadogon.

The Police are looking for the ex-solider.
