Goldminer robbed of jewellery worth $1.1M at Sophia

A thirty-year-old goldminer of Section ‘B’ Field, Sophia, Greater Georgetown was robbed of jewellery amounting to $1.1 million while at his home on July 9, 2022.

The police launched an investigation into the robbery which occurred at around 19:20 hrs on the date mentioned.

The goldminer reported that he was standing in his yard when he saw three unidentifiable men, who were armed with guns, walking in the street.

The men, who were heading in an eastern direction, suddenly turned around and went into the goldminer’s yard. They subsequently confronted him, whipping out the handguns and pointing them at the man. They allegedly demanded that he hand over seven gold chains that he was wearing at the time.

The man refused to give them the chains and one of the perpetrators pulled off the articles from the man’s neck. The men made good their escape, running in an unknown direction.

A report was later made to the police and an investigation is ongoing.
