A 29-year-old man of Osamo Street, North Ruimveldt, Georgetown was arrested just after midnight on Sunday with an illegal firearm – a 9mm Glock pistol along with six matching rounds of ammunition.
Police Headquarters in a statement said the man was arrested within the vicinity of the Russian Embassy on the Kitty Public Road in Georgetown.
Ranks received information that led to the illegal firearm being seized. The man was driving a Toyota Allion motorcar proceeding in a western direction along the said road.
After searching the vehicle and nothing illegal was found, ranks search the man when the firearm and ammunition were discovered.
“The 29-year-old suspect was immediately told of offence, arrested and escorted to the Kitty Police station,” the police reported.
He was subsequently escorted to Brickdam Police Station, where he was placed into custody assisting with the investigation.
