Chinese national electrocuted at Vreed-en-Hoop

A Chinese national received electric shock and burns about his hands and body while working at the Chicken n’ Burger Delight, Vreed-en-Hoop, Region Three location on Wednesday.

The owner of the Chicken n’ Burger, Chetan Puran, told the News Room that the incident could have been avoided had the Guyana Power and Light (GPL) removed an electrical post with high voltage wires months ago.

Puran said the incident occurred at about 11:30hrs. The injured man was working with a company hired to do some aluminum works on the property.

Puran recalled that they heard sparks from the wires and upon investigating, found that the man had been injured.

He was taken to the West Demerara Regional Hospital where he is being treated.

A frustrated Puran told the News Room that he requested that GPL remove the wires about a year ago.

“We are getting a lot of push around from GPL.

“We are annoyed because we have been insisting and pleading with GPL for over a year. Since we started construction there, we have asked them to move that wire; it is impeding over our boundary and, secondly, it is a risk,” Puran told the News Room.

GPL has been contacted for comment on the issue.

There is little to no consequence for any dereliction of duty in Guyana. Workers are seemingly FREE to disregard any report from the public no matter how serious it is and nothing happens to them. It’s business as usual the next day even though something terrible happened because of the lack of action.
Police is within walking distance and report comes in that a man is being murdered. Police response- we ain’t got vehicle suh we kyant come. HOW IS THIS AN ACCEPTABLE ANSWER TO AN EMERGENCY IN 2022?? How low have we become? Result- the man was murdered and life goes on as if he didn’t exist.
President goes somewhere and people has to ask him to help them get a roof on a school. Or a concrete walkway. The President gives the order for it to be done but no one is held responsible for so trivial a matter reaching till to the President. What a shame!
GPl is another waste. So long the owner made a report and nothing was done. Now a person is injured but it will be business as usual at GPL. The people are denied justice in every way because if one sues GPL the case will languish in the system and be called up in twenty years, maybe.
This place is a disaster, to put it mildly. Shame on the PPP and PNC!
