The Guyana Power and Light Inc (GPL) has said that the Vreed-en-hoop, West Coast Demerara fast food outlet Chicken n’ Burger Delight proceeded to carry out construction works near its primary network without the necessary supervision and oversight of the company.

On Tuesday, a construction worker sustained injuries after he came into contact with the electrical wires.

The company said it had been insisting and pleading with GPL for over a year to remove a pole and a wire that not only impeded the company’s land boundary but posed a risk.

But GPL said that removal of its infrastructure takes time, especially since this is its 13.8 kV primary network.

“Whilst our Company acknowledges receipt of a letter from Chicken n’ Burger Delight requesting the relocation of a section of our primary network, relocation of a primary network from an existing corridor requires meticulous design, planning, and execution,” GPL stated.

The company proceeded with its work though not securing the needed supervision from GPL.

An investigation has been launched in collaboration with the Ministry of Labour Occupation Health & Safety Department to determine the circumstances that led to the accident in which the worker was injured.

GPL implored the public to contact its office through its Customer Call Centre on 226-2600 for the Company’s supervision to prevent incidents of this nature.

The company is reminding of the dangers associated with working close to our network without communicating with the Company to facilitate a safe working environment.
