Just two spots now remain in this year’s Milo Boys Under-18 Schools Football Tournament after two one-sided quarterfinal matches at the Ministry of Education ground, Carifesta Avenue, on Sunday.

Golden Grove Secondary and Dolphin Secondary are through to the semi-finals and will await their opponents from the quarterfinals on Wednesday (July 20).

Defending champions, Christianburg Wismar Secondary faces Cummings Lodge Secondary from 16:00h followed by North Ruimveldt Secondary and West Ruimveldt Secondary from 18:00h.

Led by Kelvin Richards with a double via goals on either side of the half, Golden Grove defeated Friendship Secondary 4-1.

Richards netted in the 20th and 67th and got support from Tyric Trotman (25th) and Duwad Wilson (90th) after Friendship had taken the lead in the 16th minute off the feet of Jamal Cordis.

The battle is on for a spot in this year’s final

In the second match, President’s College, who finished fourth at the last tournament in 2019, was unable to return an answer to Dolphin in their 0-5 defeat.

A truly combined team effort led the rampage for Dolphin as Caldwell Peters (15th, 84th) and Gerry Burnette (24th, 86th) got braces and Samuel Grant (59th) also got in on the goal-scoring spree.

At stake is a cash prize of G$300,000 for the tournament’s winner to go towards a school project. Second to fourth will cop G$200,000, G$100,000, and G$75,000 respectively.

There will also be individual prizes for top performers.
