The Eugene F. Correia International Airport at Ogle, East Coast Demerara will be expanded, President Dr Irfaan Ali announced on Thursday.
“We will have an expansion of the airport, the airport is going to be unveiling an expansion plan that will see a lot of development coming to support the airport,” President Ali said while addressing the sod-turning ceremony of the US$50 million AC Marriott Hotel.
The hotel will be constructed within close proximity of the airport.
The expansion will be done to cater for an anticipated increase in traffic in the booming oil and gas industry. The airport at Ogle is one of the busiest in the Caribbean region.
In 2019, the airport commissioned a $70 million taxiway to accommodate helicopters. This was done to meet the requirements of the oil and gas industry.
