A search by members of the Joint Services at the Lusignan Prison, East Coast Demerara on Saturday unearthed a number of illegal items including razor blades, scissors and improvised weapons.
Police Headquarters reported that the search was conducted between 06:15hrs and 08:30hrs.
The following items were found during the joint operation:
** 9 cellphones
** 10 improvised weapons
** 7 razor blades
** 1 charger head
** 2 phone batteries
** 3 scissors (pairs)
** 5 lighters
** 1 metal spoon
Also, on the southern side of the prison compound a black plastic parcel was found that contained a quantity of leaves, seeds and stems suspected to be cannabis, and when weighed amounted to 72 grams.
