Woman, 96, dies from COVID; 81 new cases recorded

A fully vaccinated 96-year-old woman from Region Four (Demerara-Mahaica) is Guyana’s latest COVID-19 fatality.

The Ministry of Health on Saturday said the woman died on July 22. This latest death takes the total number of deaths recorded since March 2020 in Guyana to 1, 269.

Meanwhile, 81 new cases were recorded after 463 tests were done, taking the overall number of confirmed cases to 69, 413.

The new cases were recorded in the following regions; Region Two (two cases), Region Three (three cases), Region Four (42 cases), Region Five (eight cases), Region Six (four cases), Region Seven (one case), Region Nine (18 cases) and Region Ten (three cases).

There are five patients in the COVID-19 Intensive Care Unit, 30 patients are in institutional isolation and 833 are in home isolation.

To date, 67, 276 people have recovered from the virus.
