Demerara Distillers Limited (DDL), through its global brand Pepsi brand, has recommitted support for the Boys and Girls Under-14 schools football tournament.

At a simple presentation on Tuesday at their head office at Diamond, East Bank Demerara, representatives from the sponsors and organisers team spoke glowing about the partnership over the years and a desire to strengthen such.

Weather permitting, the tournament is expected to commence on Saturday at the Ministry of Education, ground, Carifesta Avenue.

Co-Director of the Petra Organisation, Troy Mendonca noted the support will play a significant role in producing a well-run tournament, which provides the platform to spot the nation’s future stars.

He highlighted the tournament is unique as it brings together boys and girls, thereby fostering fruitful football engagements.

DDL’s Brand Manager, Larry Wills, expressed interest in the development of the country’s youth through the sport and noted their support was without question due to the stellar performances by not just the players, but the organising body.

The tournament will play on a round-robin/knockout basis. However, the 24 boys’ teams will be divided into four groups of six, which will then be reduced to 16 teams.

Thereafter, there will be no more elimination as teams will vie for positions one to 16.

A similar approach will occur for the girls’ tournament and the organisers have scheduled Saturdays as match days at the Ministry of Education ground, Carifesta Avenue.
