City Magistrate Leron Daly on Friday remanded a 34-year-old minibus driver to prison for having 60 grams of cannabis in his possession.

Warren Broomes of Edun Street, Tucville Housing Scheme, pleaded not guilty to the charge which alleged that on July 27 at Arapaima Street, East La Penitence, he had the narcotics in his possession for the purpose of trafficking.

Police Prosecutor Christopher Morris told the court that on the day in question, Broomes was searched by the police and a quantity of transparent ziplock plastic bags was found in his right-side front pants pocket.

When told of the offence committed, Broomes opted to remain silent. He was arrested and later charged.

While objecting to bail, Prosecutor Morris told the court that Broomes was recently convicted for cannabis possession in another court.

For that offence, Broomes was fined $5,000 and had to complete 15 hours of community service.

The Magistrate upheld the prosecutor’s objection and remanded Broomes to prison until August 19.
