Duo remanded for robbing woman at knifepoint

Two men who are accused of robbing a woman at knifepoint were on Tuesday remanded to prison for armed robbery.

Lorenzo Haywood called ‘Renzo’, a 19-year-old construction worker of Melanie, East Coast Demerara, and Tyrese Maricer called ‘Cheeks’, a 20-year-old labourer of Queen Street, Kitty appeared before Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court.

Particulars of the charge alleged that the pair, on July 30, at Albert Street, Georgetown, while being in the company of another and armed with a knife, robbed Mariska Schattevo of her cell phone and gold chain valued at $158,000.

Heywood and Maricer pleaded not guilty to the joint charge and were remanded to prison until August 17.

According to reports, the victim was walking along Albert Street when she was confronted by the duo, along with another.

It is alleged that Heywood placed a knife on the victim’s side, while Maricer robbed her.

The men made good of their escape and the victim made a police report. The police, acting on information received, later arrested Heywood and Maricer.

Maricer was found with the stolen chain, while Heywood was reportedly found with the victim’s cell phone.  The police are currently on the hunt for the third suspect.
