Bandit shot by accomplice during robbery

A bandit who reportedly attempted to rob a supermarket at the Soesdyke, East Bank Demerara (EBD), was shot by his accomplice early Wednesday morning.

Police headquarters reported that three men, including one armed with a handgun, attempted to rob the supermarket at around 02:30 hrs on Wednesday.

At the time, the supermarket’s proprietor was awakened by a loud banging noise coming from the door that sounded similar to a gunshot.

Upon examination, the proprietor saw a man, whose face was covered with a mask, lying in front of the door with blood oozing from his head.

The two other suspects then ran out of the building and escaped.

Police officers were subsequently informed of the incident and the suspect was then taken to the Diamond Hospital for treatment, where he is presently under police guard.

Additionally, one 9MM spent shell was recovered at the scene.

Investigations are ongoing.
