Cellphone of murdered Canje businessman found at suspect’s house

Investigators in Region Six on Tuesday recovered the cellphone of Vickram Seubarran called ‘Vick’, the businessman who was found murdered in his home at No.2 Village, East Canje Berbice on Monday

The cellphone, which was confirmed to be that of Seubarran by his relatives, was found at the home of the murder suspect who has only been identified as ‘Dave’ from Betsy Ground, East Canje, Berbice.

Dave was arrested along with two others and he has since confessed to committing the brutal act.

A police source, close to the investigation, has since revealed that the suspect shared a close relationship with Seubarran.

He told police that the businessman invited him over to his house Sunday night and after spending some time, he wanted to leave but was prevented from doing so by the victim who was making sexual demands.

This resulted in a confrontation between the two men and the suspect reportedly confessed that he grabbed a knife from the kitchen counter and stabbed the man in an effort to ward off his advances.

He reportedly told police that he did not intend to kill Seubarran.

The youngest brother of the victim, Glen Seubarran has since said that he along with other relatives is not surprised at what the suspect told police.

He said the suspect was a usual at his brother’s home and while they were unsure of who exactly committed the act, they had their suspicions and were aware that it had to have been someone well known to the businessman.

He also stated that they are satisfied with the work of the police and are confident that justice will be served when the suspect is charged.

Meanwhile, an autopsy is expected to be conducted on Wednesday. The News Room understands that the two other suspects who were in custody are expected to be released.
