National Under-19 cricketers off to St. Vincent for Regional tournament

The Guyana Under-19 squad departed Sunday morning for St. Vincent and the Grenadines where the Cricket West Indies Under-19 tournament will be staged from August 9 – 28.

This year, only the Three-Day format will be contested.

According to a release from the Guyana Cricket Board (GCB), Alvin Mohabir, who led the Under-17 team in the recently concluded Regional tournament, will have the distinct privilege of being captain of two national teams within a given year.

Vice-Captain Jonathan Rampersaud will support him.

West Indies Under-19 fast bowler, Isai Thorne, is expected to lead the bowling department along with pacer Bruce Vincent, and fast bowling all-rounder, Rivaldo Phillips with support from spinners Jeremy Sandia, Rampersaud and Mohabir.

Rampertab Ramnauth, who struck an unbeaten century against Trinidad and Tobago in the Regional Under-17 tournament,  is expected to lead the batting department with support from the talented Mavendra Dindyal, Zachary Jodah, Tomanni Ceasar, and Mahendra Gopilall.

Former National Senior team player Andre Percival will coach the team while Budhesh Chatterpaul will serve as the Manager.

Guyana opens the tournament on August 9 against Trinidad and Tobago at Park Hill then play the Leeward Islands at the same venue from August 14-16.

The third and final preliminary match before the playoffs will see Guyana taking on Jamaica at Arnos Vale from August 19-21.

Thereafter, the matches will be based on a team’s standing in the championship.
