A 24-year-old man was Monday remanded to prison for armed robbery.

Ryan Pompey of Enmore, East Coast Demerara appeared before City Magistrate Annette Singh weeks after he was released from prison after serving a three-year sentence for a similar crime.

Pompey pleaded not guilty to the charge which alleged that, on August 6, 2022, at North Road, Georgetown, while being armed with a knife, he robbed Shane Paul of $45,000.

He was remanded to prison until August 15.

According to reports, on the day in question, Paul was allegedly beaten and robbed by Pompey.  The matter was reported to the police and Pompey was later arrested.

However, in court, Pompey told the Magistrate that he went to the Georgetown Public Hospital to receive medications for a cut he had received on his abdomen.

Pompey said that upon entering the compound he was confronted by a security guard, who informed him someone said that he robbed them.

He was arrested by the police and placed in an identification parade where he was positively pointed out by Paul.

In 2019, Pompey was sentenced to serve three years imprisonment after he confessed to robbing a man of a $10,000 cellphone and $700 cash.
